Our new campaign concept I Am turns the spotlight on women who make a difference.
The first chapter is fronted by professor of robotics Danica Kragic. The campaign, I Am Danica Kragic, shows the strength of multifaceted personalities, and the importance of being allowed to access all versions of oneself.
– Conscious, driven women have always been my main source of inspiration. Women who have the courage to both fail and succeed. The demands that life’s duality places on us shapes us and our needs. It also shapes what I want to create, says Carin Rodebjer, Creative Director and founder of Rodebjer.
Danica Kragic – robotics scientist and professor in Computer Science at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm – is fronting the first chapter of the campaign; I Am Danica Kragic. Danica Kragic is one of the world’s top Robot Researchers. She is a Professor in Computer Science at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm and Member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Right now she is developing robotic systems that interact with its environment and identifies objects. Her ultimate goal is to create a robot that can sew silk.
Q: Why do you participate in this campaign?
A: I am very passionate about clothing as an expression but also to broaden the recruitment for the training programs at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm where I work. Diversity is important for research to progress.
Q: What is your relationship to clothing?
A: Textiles and clothes have followed me throughout my life. My grandmother was a seamstress and while I was studying I supported myself by sewing clothes. I use clothes as a tool to show who I am, right now, today and in life in general.
Q: What is the campaign about?
A: The duality of life. I am a robotics scientist and a seamstress. Society expects us to be like robots. But we are human beings. We are more complex than robots. In order to be a good scientist I also need to spend my time on other things. When I sew during the weekend I focus better on lecturing. Finding solutions for challenges that are orthogonal, in relation to my profession, makes me a better scientist. It is important to stand up for the need of duality in life: Work and play. Research and sewing. Both are as important to me.
Q: What are your thoughts on Rodebjer?
A: There are clothes that shape you and require you to have a specific body shape. Rodebjer’s collections are versatile, I have space. I have the power to decide how the clothes will look. I can do what I want.
Q: What is your most important message?
A: You can do two completely different things in life and that makes you better at your profession. If you don’t dare to switch complete now and then, you will never get better at what you do in your career. The new generation should be okay doing different things in life. I become much stronger when I sew during the weekend. It makes me more focused on my research.
